Walking Club

Walking Club

Halesowen Cricket Club has a walking club which is known as the Seth Somers Strollers.

The club walks every Saturday morning for approximately nine months of the year and culminates its activities with a charity walk known as the ‘wicket to wicket’ walk in aid of the Air Ambulance.

The club was set up to raise money for the Air Ambulance which was the choice of the founders for personal reasons. The first year saw the walkers walk from Halesowen Cricket Club to New Road, Worcestershire CCC to present the groups fundraising donation on the pitch during the CB40 league match. The second year saw the same walk but a different route which was slightly shorter. This season the third annual walk started at Halesowen CC and walked into Birmingham and then along the canal paths out of the city to Walmley where the Bunburry’s were staging at match for Blind Dave Heeley’s charity. Details of the fourth Annual Walk will be announced in due course.

Each walk costs just one pound and all money goes to charitable causes. During the year each person has the opportunity to organise a walk where they get to pick the location and route of the walk. Each walk is set in beautiful countryside and features a warm and relaxing atmosphere where a group of friends meet to swap stories and discuss the happenings of the day whilst enjoying healthy exercise. The walks are varied with some more difficult than others.

The club is led by experienced walkers Francis Foley, Jon Hill and Bill Andrews.

During the year other fundraising events are arranged and the highlight of the cricket season is the annual Can’t Play, Won’t Play challenge match where novice cricketers take to the Seth Somers Park ground to see what it’s like for the serious players who play league matches all in the name of the Air Ambulance.
