Richard Evans steps down as Club Chairman

Statement from Richard Evans:

After much consideration over the last couple of months and in particular since the conclusion of the 2018 season I have decided to step down from my role as chairman of Halesowen Cricket Club.

I have been proud to carry out this role over a number of years but feel that now is the right time for somebody with fresh ideas to drive things forward.

I would like to thank members and my family in particular for their support over the past five years in a role that has been all consuming and challenging. I have thrown myself wholeheartedly into the role and am proud of the achievements both on and off the field. The club is left with a stronger playing side at all levels, a stronger junior section and facilities as good as any in the county. It is these achievements that I will be most proud of.

I will work with committee on a transitional phase over the next couple of weeks and wish my successor the best of luck.

The club would like to place on record it’s thanks to Richard, for the immense contribution which he has made to the club over the past few years.

During Richard’s Chairmanship the club has returned to Division One of the Birmingham and District Premier League, won the Canterbury Cup at New Road, the second XI achieved promotion to the Premier League and the third eleven clinched the Worcestershire County League Division Four Title.

Off the field, the clubs playing facilities have undergone a complete transformation, with the cubs playing surfaces featuring highly in the league rankings, and a new state of the art net facility being opened at the start of the 2018 season.

In non-cricket related activities the clubs annual bonfire and fireworks event has seen attendances grow strongly each year, and the club also introduced a Beer Festival for the first time in 2017 with over 2,500 people attending the event in its first two years. The clubhouse has also seen a large internal refurbishment and a once very leaky roof being fixed

President Trevor Argent will act as Interim Club Chairman and the club’s General Committee will continue with the management of the club in the immediate future.
